Recap of Spring break in Golden Gate Canyon, CO

In my last post I had stated that my girlfriend Yesenia and I would be taking a camping trip to Custer State Park in South Dakota. After looking at the weather throughout the week leading up to the trip we decided against it and went back to the drawing board. We ended up going south to Golden Gate Canyon State Park in Golden, CO. What a great decision that was! It was a seven and a half hour trip from Crete but well worth it.

We stayed four days and three nights in a tent on the slopes of the mountain. We rarely had company next to us, maybe three other campers within 400-500 yards away from us. Setting up the new tent we had was DIFFICULT. The sun was up when we started, and was almost down when we finished. The days were filled up sunshine and clear skies, though the nights were the complete opposite. The temperature when the sun went down was about 30 degrees Fahrenheit, and about 15-20 degrees late into the night. Though we had plenty of covers, it was hard to sleep as our bodies were heating up but our faces were ice cold. We did plenty of trail walks, exploring the mountain, and relaxing next to a fire with some tunes.

I had written journal entries while we were out there and wanted to share it along with pictures and clips from the trip!

Journal Entry 3/8/20

12:50P.M.- I'm sitting on a log with Finni (our dog), staring into the forest as a cold breeze rolls by. It's incredibly quiet, no cars, no buildings, not many people. birds chirp every once in a while, and you can hear the breeze approach before it hits you. I am loving this. Yesenia is having a good time too. I'v wanted to be out here camping in the mountains for so long. It does get a little cold at times, especially at night. Blackhawk (city about 5 miles from our camp) was an awesome local town right outside of the par. The sun is being covered by the clouds so it's a little chilly but not too bad. Gotta keep moving!

We're down in a valley looking up at the mountains in front of us, with walls of trees blanketing it. I want to climb it.
