Creating a fire that lasts

1- Create your fire bed - You don't want to be the person who sets the whole campground on fire so fire safety is paramount. Building a fire bed for is an essential part of the method which will keep you and others safe. Find a place away from brush, trees, etc that is strictly dirt. If find one is difficult, make your own.

2- Gather wood - You will need two types of burning material to start and keep your fire going. To start off you will want some kindling. Thin branches and twigs work perfectly to get the fire started. Fuel wood is next. This is the main source of material that will keep the fire roaring over the night. Look for wood that is about as wide as your arms width.

3- Lay your fire - I usually like the teepee method of making a fire, and it is typically the most common as well. Begin by laying your tinder/kindling in the middle of your fire bed in a pile. After making the pile, make a small teepee out of some kindling/tinder. Leave an opening in your kindling teepee in the direction where the wind is blowing to keep airflow. Continue building the teepee until you run out of twigs and smaller branches. Finally build on the smaller teepee with the larger branches. Place your match in the middle of the the kindling, this will ensure that the flame goes straight up and the fire covers all the wood.

4- Putting out the fire - When you're all done, putting out the fire is a must. Start early and don't pour a ton of water straight onto it. You want to sprinkle fire so that one, you don't create a massive cloud of smoke, and secondly so that the next person using it may have the opportunity to do so.

Hope this helps! Let me know of your methods and what you think is the best way to create a fire is.
